Wedding times are undoubtedly one of the most memorable times in anybody’s life. Everyone desires to look their best during the wedding, as moments captured during this occasion are etched for infinity.
Should I undergo LASIK before my wedding? Spectacles can hinder your look, and contact lenses can be uncomfortable, especially during long hours and wedding rituals. LASIK offers a permanent solution for relief from glasses and contacts. I want to share my LASIK journey and the reasons behind choosing laser vision correction.
Reasons Behind LASIK Before My Wedding
- Most people undergoing LASIK have expressed that they are undergoing the procedure to look good in their wedding photos.
- People want to experience the beauty of life during and after the wedding without glasses or contact lenses.
- Some people worry that wearing glasses affects finding a match, while others fear passing on eyesight issues to future generations—a concern increasingly seen in urban populations as well.
- Many people dream of traveling the world with their partners without the hassle of spectacles or contact lenses. For those dependent on visual aids, enjoying clear, natural vision without them is truly blissful.
- Wear sunglasses during travel.

Best Time to Undergo LASIK Surgery:
I recommend planning the surgery at least a month before the wedding. Avoid makeup near the eyes for three weeks, and keep water out of the eyes for at least one week after the procedure. You may bathe normally, but take extra care while washing your hair. You can brush your teeth as usual and clean the face around the eyes using the sterile wipes provided.
Avoid dust for 2-3 weeks after LASIK. Wear large sunglasses or protective glasses during travel if necessary, and use prescribed eye drops for 4 weeks to prevent infection.
You have to avoid swimming for at least a month after LASIK. You cannot allow sand or dust to enter your eyes. Avoid rubbing your eyes. If, in case, sand or some foreign particle enters your eyes, it’s better to use the antibiotic drops and see the nearest eye care specialist who can help you. So during your honeymoon, I’d recommend you carry antibiotic drops and artificial tears in your travel pouch. Do research about where you can find help in case of emergency before travelling.
Avoid UV light: Always wear sunglasses in sunlight, even when it’s cloudy, as clouds reflect UV light. Even snow reflects UV light and so does water. So it’s crucial to wear sunglasses on the beach or in the mountains. Even if you are on the cruise, protect your eyes against UV light. UV light can do some damage to the eyes, especially in certain types of LASIK, so it’s very important to protect our eyes.
Exercise and Diet Post-LASIK:
A light workout a week after LASIK is permissible, but lifting weights has to be increased gradually over the months. You shouldn’t start lifting weights soon after LASIK. Vitamin levels need to be ensured, especially Vitamin C. Alcohol should be avoided for up to a month, as it aggravates dry eyes and alters tissue healing. Smoke aggravates dry eyes, so avoiding a smoky environment is better.
So what is the best way to get LASIK done? A few months before your wedding. around 3-5 months prior, so that you get the needed time off and yet later in time for all your shopping and running around as the dates come closer. Do plan to get rid of those glasses permanently months before your wedding so you can enjoy all the blissful moments.
