NASAL PTERYGIUM

NASAL PTERYGIUM is a non-cancerous growth of tissue on the conjunctiva, which is the thin, clear membrane that covers the white part of the eye (sclera). This growth typically starts on the side of the eye closest to the nose and can slowly extend onto the cornea.

Causes of NASAL PTERYGIUM:

But it is believed to be associated with excessive exposure to ultraviolet (UV) light, particularly from sunlight. Other factors that may contribute to its development include chronic eye irritation from dust, wind, or dryness. Additionally, environmental conditions such as exposure to allergens or prolonged screen time can exacerbate these symptoms.

Symptoms of NASAL PTERYGIUM:

  • Redness and inflammation of the eye
  • Itching or burning sensation
  • Additionally, experiencing grittiness or a sensation of a foreign body in the eye can be indicative of several eye conditions or irritations.
  • Blurred vision, particularly if the growth extends over the cornea

Treatment:

  1. Steroid Eye Drops: These can help reduce inflammation and discomfort.
  2. Surgical Removal: If the pterygium is large, causing vision problems, or doesn’t respond to other treatments, surgical removal may be necessary.
