Wearing glasses, cataracts, and certain eye problems of the blood group does not affect eye donation. On death, inform the eye bank immediately. The donation must be within 6 hours of death. Close your eyes and place wet cotton over lids.

Eye Transplants Done in a Year?
In India, 25,000 people donate their eyes out of over 1 million deaths, but eye banks collect only 50,000 donated eyes. Every year around 15,000 corneal transplantations take place in India.
In the worldwide records, approximately 100,000 eye transplants were performed.
Can We Donate One Eye?
If an eye is blind but the front is healthy, doctors can remove the cornea and use it again. There are no instances of donation between people who are living as this is illegal.
How Long After Death Can Eyes be Donated
The eyes of the Donor can be removed within hours after death. The eyes of a donated person can save the vision of two blind people. Eye removal takes only 10-15 minutes and leaves no scar or disfigurement of the face.
