Which type of contact lens is best to use?

Soft Contact lenses are very easy to wear and handle. A particular variety of soft contact lenses can be worn for weeks before discarding. Soft Contact lenses have a shorter life span. Rigid gas-permeable contact lenses are made from a more complex material than soft lenses, making them more durable and breathable. They also allow more oxygen to reach the cornea but must be removed nightly to clean and disinfect them. Some rigid gas-permeable lenses can be worn for an extended period (11-12 hours) – without needing to be taken out. Rigid Gas Permeable Contact lenses have a longer life span than Soft Contact lenses.

Types of contact lenses

Types of CL are available.

  1. Soft CLs: Soft contact lenses are a great way to improve vision for those suffering from forme fruste and/or earlier forms of keratoconus. They come in disposable form, which is very convenient and can be an excellent option for people who want to avoid surgery or other more invasive corrective measures.
  2. Disposable/ Frequent Replacement CL: Out of the three types of lenses – daily disposable lenses are typically the best option for most people to use daily without any issues. Even though the upfront cost for these lenses may be higher than the other two options, they are recommended by eye care professionals as the safest option for your eyes in the long run.

Other lenses available are:

  1. Toric CL: Toric contact lenses are specifically designed to correct vision for astigmatism patients. This condition causes your cornea or lens to have an irregular curvature. If you have regular astigmatism, corneal astigmatism, or lenticular astigmatism, toric lenses may be the right choice for you in terms of Regaining optimal vision.
  2. Bifocal: Bifocal contact lenses are ideal for people who need two different prescriptions for their eyesight. The lenses offer one view for close reading and another for normal vision. This makes them perfect for people who need to be able to see clearly at different distances. These lenses are prescribed for those suffering from Presbyopia or age-related inability to see near objects. This usually occurs after 40 years of age.
  3. Special lenses for Special Cornea: A thin plastic lens, often flexible, floats on a layer of tears on the surface of your eye. These lenses can be of permanent Hard variety or disposable. The permanent variety must be cleaned and cared for to avoid infection or severe damage to your eyes. Example– Rose K, Mini Scleral Lenses, Scleral Lenses
  4. Prosthetic / colour lenses: The Prosthetic Contact Lens is designed to help correct the appearance of disfigured eyes due to disease, trauma, or birth defects. By providing a more realistic look, the prosthetic contact lens can boost the wearer’s confidence and help them feel more comfortable in social situations.

The main difference between these types of lenses is the material they’re made of. Hard contacts are usually made from rigid gas-permeable plastic, while soft contacts are usually silicone hydrogel. The former provides more stiffness, while the latter provides more flexibility and comfort. However, soft lenses’ life expectancy is often shorter than rigid gas-permeable lenses.

Do soft contact lenses last a lifetime?

Although daily disposable contacts are only meant to be used for one day, you can use monthly disposable contacts for up to 30 days. However, daily care and maintenance will still be required for reusable lenses, even if they’re only being used for a short period. Use suitable lens care solutions to avoid eye infections or other problems.

How many hours per day can you wear contacts?

The safety of contact lenses depends on the material they’re made of. Our corneas rely heavily on oxygen from the atmosphere to stay healthy, and when we wear contact lenses, we’re blocking some of that oxygen from reaching our eyes. The quality of the materials used to make lenses determines how long we can safely wear them – some contacts can be worn for 6-8 hours, while others can be worn for 14-16 hours a day. It’s best to take them out before bedtime so our eyes can rest.

If you’re finding that your new contacts are blurry, there are a few things you can try. First, make sure you’re wearing the correct prescription. This could also indicate that you are wearing the wrong prescription.

However, it is better to wear Protective goggles in extremely Cold weather.

What is the maximum power of contacts?
